School Council
Democracy is an important part of how we operate at The Federation of Bursledon Schools. An example of this is our School Council. The election of the class School Council member reflects our British electoral system and demonstrates democracy in action: candidates make speeches, children consider characteristics important for an elected representative and children have the opportunity to vote for who they would like elected. The School Council meet regularly to discuss issues raised by the different classes. These meetings have a significant impact on change within the school.
OUR VISIT TO WESTMINSTER
- School council members alongside Mrs Elsworthy, Mrs Stamp and two Governors (Mr Nolan and Mrs Bax) visited Westminster. It was an incredible visit which saw all elements of the House of Commons, House of Lords and Port Cullis. We met a large number of MPs, Mr Speaker and the house of comments Doorman. All staff were all in that day to swear their allegiance to the new King. We even met our PM - Rishi Sunak (which at that time was not yet the PM!) Such a special memory and experience.

Our MP visit
Our local MP Paul Holmes visited our schools to talk to our school council. They confidently spoke about what they do, how they were elected and what their current actions are. We talked about our manifesto and what the councillors' current concerns are within the community. Oliver and Daniel expressed our concerns about the busy road outside both schools. Paul said he would raise our concerns with the local authority and advise us on what we can do as next steps. We are also hoping that Paul will arrange a trip to Westminster in the near future! Watch this space!
