PSHE
How do we teach PSHEin the Bursledon Federation?
At Bursledon Federation, our PSHE curriculum is carefully designed to nurture confident, resilient and compassionate young people who understand themselves, value others and are equipped to navigate an ever‑changing world. Through a thoughtful, interactive and discussion‑rich approach, children explore themes such as relationships, health, well‑being, diversity and citizenship, developing the emotional literacy and decision‑making skills needed to thrive both in and beyond school. Oracy is woven throughout our PSHE teaching to ensure pupils can articulate feelings, viewpoints and values with clarity and respect, engaging in structured talk, collaborative problem‑solving, role‑play and reflective conversations that help them grow into thoughtful, empathetic communicators. Teachers foster a safe, supportive and high‑expectations environment where every child feels heard, respected and empowered to ask questions, reflect on experiences and practise strategies for positive mental and emotional health. Our curriculum builds progressively across the years, introducing new vocabulary, concepts and real‑life scenarios through direct teaching and carefully designed resources that deepen understanding and promote responsible choices. By the end of Key Stage 2, our children leave Bursledon as confident, emotionally literate and socially aware individuals who can form healthy relationships, contribute positively to their community and approach future challenges with maturity, kindness and self‑belief.
The impact of the PSHE curriculum at Bursledon will be young people who are prepared for the complexities of later life, equipped with the emotional understanding, interpersonal skills and values needed to flourish as responsible, confident members of society.
