Are you looking for the next step in your leadership journey? Are you currently an Assistant Head or Deputy that is thinking about moving on but not quite yet ready for Headship? Do you aspire to be a Head and would like more experience in a role that gives you the breath and experience of operational and strategic leadership? Due to a recent promotion to Headship we have an incredible vacancy on offer for the Head of School of Bursledon C of E Infant school – at the Bursledon Federation.

Bursledon Federation is made up of Bursledon C of E Infant school and Bursledon CA Junior school sat in the heart of Bursledon providing love, respect and aspiration to 620 pupils and our community. Whilst we sit as 2 individual schools, we work collectively like a primary setting giving excellent learning experiences to pupils from Year R-6.

What makes us different?

We pride ourselves on making a difference every single day and in doing so we highly value and develop our staff to enable them to be the best staff member they can be. As a team, working to get closer to our vision everyday we are looking for someone to join our hardworking, motivating and inspirational staff. Leaders at our school roll up their sleeves and ensure they can talk the talk and walk the walk! Every learning opportunity counts and when you visit you will notice learners who are highly engaged and getting better every day and when we say learners – we mean every single person within our school building – including staff!

Curriculum

Over the last few years we have re-written and developed a strong, purposeful, engaging and exciting curriculum underpinned with high quality text drivers, key thematic topics and stimulating trips and experiences for every year group, every half term! Both our schools are rated ‘Good’ with some outstanding features in the last 2 years as well as a recent ‘Excellent’ SIAMs inspection for the Infant school. Please read the report where you can see how well are supporting and developing Christian Distinctiveness for our pupils.

Our results in 2023/2024 were excellent and above national at all levels – Year R GLD, Phonics, KS1 and KS2. We are incredibly proud of our highly effective phonics programme that we developed ourselves and even Nick Gibb – Minister of Education came to visit us last year as he wanted to see it! We are at a strong point in school development and as a result our current Federation Improvement Plan (FIP) is dynamic, exciting and really outward facing – do you think you could support the next chapter in our school leadership journey?

Leadership

We have a delegated leadership model with an Executive Headteacher across both schools, Head of school in each school, two Assistant Headteacher roles (one curriculum, one inclusion) as well as strong middle leaders for Maths, English that work across the schools. Our teachers lead in subjects, some in teams across both schools. We really value CPD in the school and support and continue to support staff at all levels whether this is developing a specific practice or element within their role through our in-house coaching programme or for those teachers and leaders who want to engage with NPQSL, ML, EYFS or NPQH.

Investing in people

We have much to offer our members of staff including - EAP (Health Assured Employee Assist Programme), A focused and personalised CPD programme whereby we support improvement and further challenge, SAS Wellbeing support (including comprehensive physical and mental health support to staff including private medical operations, counselling, physiotherapy and personal annual health checks), Excellent mentoring/coaching programmes - supporting those who have a view to move further in their career into a qualified teaching position and/or would like to develop their pedagogical/behaviour skills to a specialist area.

As a Federation we have a strong and supportive Governing body and we work hard to give our staff free tea, coffee, hot chocolate, accreditations and further development even in times of financial difficulty. We really value our staff and wellbeing is a key priority and we run socials every half term for those that like to spend time outside of the working day together.

This specific role gives you the chance to build strong, powerful relationships with pupils across both schools and work closely with Senior Leaders when reviewing plans, strategies and support for pupils so they feel safe, happy and ready to learn.

Both schools are rated 'Good' with some outstanding elements from Ofsted in the last 2 years, as well as a recent 'Excellent' SIAMS inspection in the Infants - we are at a strong point in school development and as a result our current Federation Improvement Plan is dynamic, exciting and really outward facing and our end of year outcomes are positive.
