Year R visit to CEMAST ( College of Engineering, Mechanics,Science and Technology)
Year 6 were fortunate to visit CEMAST, part of Fareham College based in Lee-on-the-Solent. The visit perfectly supported their current topic of ‘Tomorrow’s World’ where they learned about new inventions, gadgets and potential improvements for the future. The children were able to experience an aeroplane simulator, explore the interior of a helicopter and learn about the mechanics of an engine. In addition, children learned about how to become an engineer with the train service and how recruits to the Navy keep themselves safe in a minefield through a series of games and practical activities. Children claimed, “This was the best school trip ever!”
Year 6 Writing
Year 6 were tasked to write a new prospectus for Bursledon Junior School, outlining its marvellous advantages for new parents and students. The children initially looked at the layout of brochures belonging to other schools to gain ideas for their own writing. Of course, children had to visit each area of the school to remind themselves what it actually looked like! After taking numerous photographs, children returned to class and wrote their persuasive texts. Wait for the publications!
Year 6 were relieved to finish their SATs and celebrated with a picnic (thank you PTA) and games on the school field. During the afternoon, groups of children were invited to participate in training Darwin, our new school dog which belongs to Mrs Smith. Darwin has been learning to sit when children approach him and he is now able to do this most of the time. By the end of the training session, both William and Darwin had improved their skills!
