Year 5 has been very busy this half term, beginning our new topic, Allotments.
We have our own vegetable patches and have been weeding and preparing the soil ready for planting a variety of vegetables.
The children grew tomatoes, peas and courgettes over the half term and these are settling extremely well into their new home.
We tested different soil types to determine which kind would be best for the germination of our seeds. The investigation here shows how much water each soil sample could retain.
We have planned experiments to investigate how long it takes materials decompose. We used a variety of objects from an old matchbox car to egg boxes. In 2 weeks’ time we will dig them up and examine them against our predictions.
